The first work package: WP 0 - Evaluation of ARCADE achievements will evaluate of all the ARCADE project.
Usability issues, with a strong emphasis on input and output formats and other data related application requirements. The work package: WP 1 - Data Input/Output and Application Requirements will provide I/O treatment of different geometry standards and of real-world luminaire data.
The treatment of complex data sets by developing the algorithmic components that allow the use of radiosity-based algorithms for scenes of realistic size. The work package WP 2 - Hierarchical Data Structures for Lighting Simulation, will introduce automatic and practical clustering algorithms as well as a comprehensive hierarchical treatment of terrain and surface data and natural lighting.
The problem of lighting simulation control will be addressed by the development of suitable refinement strategies based on predictable and stable error criteria. The work package WP 3 - Control and Automatic Steering of Hierarchical Algorithms will focus on developing new refinement methods and error estimation strategies.
The treatment of dynamic scenes. The emphasis here will be on adapting and improving existing algorithms so that their use becomes feasible within the context of a real system. In work package WP 4 - Dynamic Update of Radiosity Simulations we will extend existing algorithms and data structures allowing fast radiosity updates, and present a novel approach which will allow real-time feedback using approximate shadows.
